Mysterium is a cooperative deduction board game where players take the roles of psychics trying to solve a murder mystery by interpreting mysterious visions given by a ghost.
Game Background
In the 1920s, Mr. MacDowell, a gifted astrologer, discovered a supernatural presence in his new house in Scotland. He gathered a group of talented mediums to conduct a séance and investigate an old unsolved mystery.
The ghost, who has lost its memory, cannot communicate through words. Instead, it sends dreamlike visions to the mediums through illustrated cards. The players must interpret these clues to discover the identity of the murderer, the location of the crime, and the weapon used, allowing the ghost to finally rest peacefully.
Gameplay
In the game, one player becomes the Ghost, while all other players become Mediums
The Ghost secretly knows the correct combination of the suspect, location, and murder weapon. However, the Ghost cannot speak and can only communicate through **Vision Cards** containing abstract images and symbols.
Each round represents one hour:
1. The Ghost gives each Medium one or more Vision Cards as clues.
2. Mediums analyze the images and try to identify the correct suspect.
3. Players who guess correctly continue to find the crime location and murder weapon.
4. Players who guess incorrectly receive new visions in the following rounds until they solve their part of the mystery.
Players can discuss their ideas and use clairvoyancy tokens to support or disagree with other players’ guesses.
The team must solve the entire mystery within seven hours. If they fail, the Ghost cannot recover its memories and the game is lost.
Final Investigation
After all players successfully identify their suspect, location, and weapon, the game enters the final stage.
The Ghost selects the true murder combination and provides three final Vision Cards representing the suspect, location, and weapon.
Based on the clues they have collected, players vote on who they believe is the real culprit. If the majority chooses correctly, the mystery is solved and the Ghost can finally find peace.
